STONES
Gemstones
Our gemstones are conflict-free and responsibly sourced. Please note that, as each natural gemstone is unique, subtle variations in colour may occur.
Diamonds
Our diamonds are responsibly sourced and conflict-free, sourced through vetted Australian suppliers who comply with United Nations resolutions. Our larger diamonds come with either an Auscert certificate or a Gemological Institute of America (GIA) certificate. All GIA-certified stones come with a micro-laser inscription for traceability. All our diamonds are hand selected by designer Hamish Munro.
Australian Sapphires
Our Australian Sapphires where possible are sourced directly from small-scale artisanal mines located in The Gemfields in central Queensland, Australia. These family-owned mines rely on hand mining and processing, ensuring minimal environmental impact and complete transparency throughout the process, from extraction to the final cut of the gemstone.
METALS
We are committed to using 100% responsibly sourced metals and carefully select each supplier we work with.
Gold
We work with 9ct and 18ct yellow gold, collaborating with two highly respected casting houses. One is a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), while the other works exclusively with 100% SMO (Single Mined Origin) gold, which is fully traceable from the mine to the final consumer. SMO gold meets the highest international standards, aligning with the World Gold Council’s Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMPs), the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA), and the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) principles.
The purpose of SMO is to show and prove the origin and source of mined gold, as well as the products made from that gold. This has traditionally been impossible to achieve, as different mines deal with various refiners, and the pure gold from different sources then makes its way around the world in a mixed form.
In addition, SMO only works with selected mines that agree to strict guidelines and policies regarding their workforce, the community in which they operate, their environmental practices, corporate governance, and who also agree to be independently audited to world standards for adherence to these requirements. Mines must also publish their achievements or make details available in the public domain.
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is typically composed of 92.5% pure silver, with the remaining portion made up of other metals. We use an alloy of 94% pure sterling silver, 4.14% copper, 1.8% zinc, and 0.06% tin. Our sterling silver is a blend of newly sourced silver and recycled silver from hospitals and electronic waste.
Platinum
Platinum is a rare and precious metal known for its durability and resistance to corrosion, wear and tarnishing. We typically work with an alloy mix of 95.2% pure platinum & 4.8% other metals.
Gold Vermeil
Gold Vermeil is a high-quality form of gold plating and is more resilient than standard gold plating. We work with a base of Sterling Silver plated with at least 3 microns of gold. This ensures a long-lasting finish. While durable, gold vermeil requires care to maintain it in optimal condition.

PROCESS
Hamish Munro jewellery is handmade by skilled craftsmen both locally and internationally. We work closely with suppliers who value transparency, fair work practices, and are committed to continually improving their environmental standards.
The Hamish Munro Studio is intentionally small-scale and high-touch. Each piece is made to order, or produced in small quantities, minimising footprint and impact. We take care to choose materials and apply practices that support utility and longevity. Our sustainability efforts are an ongoing process and part of our decision-making. Where possible we work locally, supporting independent suppliers and small businesses close to home.
Our team has a firsthand appreciation for developing each piece, from concept to design, sourcing, and production, interacting directly with our partners at every step. We value the details and strive to ensure they reflect our approach and way of working.
